Secure Database & Metadata Technology
As information sharing increases in importance within commercial business and Government, organizations are faced with the daunting task of providing secure, reliable, controlled access to data in timely and efficient methods. This is especially true for the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Intelligence Community where interagency coordination and the transfer of data across multiple security boundaries is a vital component of global operations. Control of access to sensitive information must be ensured and confidentiality must be maintained without constraining data sharing to the point where the value is lost.
Of the many complicating factors related to information sharing, the mingling of data with different security levels is a constant source of attention. The modern relational databases prevalent within commercial and Government organizations provide security mechanisms for authentication and authorization of user access to stored data. These mechanisms are applied through controls on access of database objects - tables and views - and the ability to determine a user's ability to read, write, update, insert, or delete information. Adding labeling mechanisms further extends the data security posture to enable sophisticated access control rules that apply to individual rows or columns of data.
In our work with the DoD and the Intelligence Community, LVI has incorporated these data security mechanisms in the design of a Secure Data Services Platform (SDSP) that accepts multiple data feeds, ensures proper labeling, applies appropriate metadata, and brokers information to a variety of customers based upon their need and their security access. The SDSP combines distinct data and web service tiers, embodying the best aspects of Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), to manage data throughout ingest, processing, storage, indexing, retrieval and dissemination processes.
LVI is committed to work with its customers to solve secure data sharing requirements within Information Technology infrastructures. Our services include:
- Analysis of data requirements
- Engineering data sharing processes
- Design of secure database infrastructure
- Metadata generation and analysis
- Compliance with policy
- Developing external interface schemas
